A Military Wife Questionnaire

I am a Military Wife!

 

I am new at being a military wive. I am loving the adventure my husband and I are on together. Yes it has it ups and downs. And yes we miss home but we have gotten to meet new people and see places we probably won't have traveled if it was not for the military. When I first became a military wife so many people said it would be easy. That has not been the case. It has been a lot of adjusting and getting use to living a different wife. Before my hubby joined the military we lived close to both sets of parents-now we are 21 hours away :( But honestly we won't change for the world. We decided to joined the military life to better our future. We are looking forward to the future and see what the Navy and God has in store for us!

I thought I would fill out this little questionnaire and play along with Show Us Your Life: Military Families over at Kelly's Korner.

1. How did you and your spouse meet?
We met at AWANAS at church.

2. How old were you when you two met? 
I was 4 and he was 7. We did not start dating til way down the road. I thought he was cute from day one! But my parents wouldn't allow us to date til we were older-haha. We ended up not dating til 2009-my senior year of college. 

 
3. How long have you been together?
We started dating on December 27, 2009. He proposed on April 4, 2010. We got married on November 20, 2010. (Yes it was quick but we knew we needed to be together!) Now we are expecting our first bundle of joy on August 21st, 2012!

4. Where are you and your spouse originally from?
South Carolina

5. How did you feel about him joining the military?
We had discussed the possibility of joining the military on and off during our dating period and early in our marriage. We didn't want to rush into anything so we both met with each branch's recruiter in the area. We compared and discussed the options of advancement, etc. We decided on the Navy. I knew this was something he always wanted to do so I supported him from day1. We went on a vacation to Hawaii in the summer of 2010 thinking that once we got back he would have 6-12 months to a year before basic (that is what we were told). However, the day we got back from vacation he was called to MEPS and sent to basic on August 15th, 2011.

6. Where did your spouse go to Basic Training?
Great Lakes, Illinois

 

7. Has your spouse ever been deployed?
No he has not been deployed. He is currently in school completing training for his ET placement. 

8. Ever been to his promotion ceremony? 
No.

9. How long have you been a military wife?
5 months

10. Did you marry him before or after he joined?
Before

11. How did your husband propose?
He placed a week trip to Disney World in April 2010 before I graduated college. On Easter Sunday, April 4th we went into Animal Kingdom for the day. After we went back to the condo and relaxed he was giddy and wanted to go back into Animal Kingdom- I was hungry and wanted to eat (little did I know his plan). After we rode some rides he wanted to take a look again at the Tree of Life. I turned to walk on only to be called back when he was down on one knee!

12. Where did you get married? 
We were married at a country club on Callawassie Island, SC

13. How old were you two when you got married?
I was 22 and he was 25.

14. Did he wear his uniform on his wedding day?
No because he hadn't joined yet.

15. Where are you and your spouse currently stationed? 
We currently stationed in Great Lakes, IL...hoping to be stationed in Florida next!

16. Do you live on base?
We are currently living on base.

17. How long were you married when you had to go through your first separation?
We were married 9 months before he left for boot camp.

18. What is your favorite base so far?
Since we have only been to one so far which is Great Lakes- which I am not sure I am liking the snow yet or not. This southern girl's blood is too thin.

19. Do you think your spouse looks good in his uniform?
Umm yes!

20. Do you think military life is more advanced than civilian life? 
Advanced? I by no means feel superior to civilian wives, but I do feel like our lives are vastly different and that should be acknowledged at times.

21. Do you like the benefits you receive as a military dependent?
Yes!

22. Do you have a lot of military wife friends? 
Yes! We actually lived near a military base before moving here to Great Lakes.

23. What is the hardest part of the military life?
Most def being away from family!

24. Do you own military wife stuff?
Absolutely! I am proud of my hubby!

25. Do you support your spouse as a member of the military? Absolutely! He works so far and is keeping our country free!
